Jen Sapiro (she/her) is a vocalist and songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York.
She received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance/ Pedagogy  from Stetson University and studied at the Longy Conservatory of Bard College post-graduate. Jen is involved in a variety of musical projects in the New York City area.

Spanning multiple genres and artistic disciplines, Jen challenges the limitations of the acoustic voice and offers a unique perspective as an improviser. Recognized by the Sulzbach-Rosenberg Times as, “...A voice that soars with absolute precision to dizzying height…”, she has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Public Records, and Nublu, as well as many variety shows off-Broadway.

Jen has collaborated with and played alongside such artists as Daedelus, Daniel Carter, Ken Kobayashi, Orchid McRae, and Dr. Vivek Menon, among others.

Jen's project, "Buried Giant" is a Chamber Pop vehicle for her own songwriting. Sometimes biographical, sometimes fantastical; her work centers around intensely emotional poetry that explores the themes of memory & grief, family & the complex relationships therein.

Jennifer is the vocalist for and founding member of the avant-garde improvisational quintet “orchiddBB” (with Orchid McRae, Dr. Vivek Menon, Mario Fontes, and Hans Young-Binter). She is also the keyboardist for Brooklyn-based Indie Rock band, “Tree Signs”.

An active member of the NYC improvisational scene, Jen has played with the Creative Music Studio Improvisers’ Orchestra under the conduction of Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson. She frequently plays with Alex Lozupone’s “Eighty Pond Pug”, whose constantly shifting roster sparks endlessly changing soundscapes. Jen is a member of Orchid McRae’s large ensembles, “House of the Ax” and “Wind Band/ Songs for the Summer”. She also appears on the debut release, “I Read Too Many Things” by collaborative trio, “Dot Iso”.

As an educator, Jennifer employs a healthy-technique-first approach to teaching, with an emphasis on open student-teacher communication informed by her own professional experience, the Suzuki Method, and her studies in Alexander Technique. She believes it is important to develop a tailored approach with every student she teaches.

Jen works with all voice types and also offers gender-affirming vocal training (FTM, MTF, and Non-binary).

Mrs. Sapiro teaches voice, piano, music theory, songwriting, and composition in the greater New York City area.
